Head of Accounting
Mário joined NEWCO’s accounting department in 2005, and currently has over 20 years of experience in auditing and accounting for companies that operate internationally, in the most diverse of sectors. Since 2009, he has been leading the team that ensures that both Portuguese and Maltese companies comply with accounting and tax regulations while they are managed by NEWCO.
He has a degree in Business Management from ISEG – The Lisbon School of Economics and Management, and holds several diplomas in the area of international taxation, always keeping himself up to date with developments, both in Portugal and Malta. He is a certified accountant by the Professional Association of Certified Accountants. Prior to joining NEWCO, Mário was an auditor at Rosa Lopes, Gonçalves Mendes & Associado, SROC and an accountant for several Portuguese companies.
As well as Portuguese, his native language, he is fluent in English and also speaks good Spanish.
Head of accounting and tax compliance
Josef heads the Malta accounting and tax compliance team and is responsible to deliver the necessary statutory accounting and tax compliance services to our clients. During his career, Josef occupied posts of Accounts Manager, Audit Manager, Financial Controller and Chief Financial Officer within a Big four firm in Malta. He is an ACCA graduate and is a certified public accountant by profession, whilst also holding a practising certificate in auditing.
Senior Tax Accountant
Amanda joined NEWCO in 2018 as a Senior Tax Accountant. In 2015, she obtained a Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy and Banking and Finance from the University of Malta. She obtained a Master in Accountancy from the University of Malta in 2017 after successfully completing her dissertation focusing on the funds industry from a tax perspective. A year later, in 2018, she also obtained a Professional Award in Taxation awarded by the Malta Institute of Taxation and is also currently reading for the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) with the Chartered Institute of International Taxation (CIOT).
Amanda is a member of the Malta Institute of Taxation as well as Malta Institute of Accountants. She is responsible for VAT compliance and tax compliance for a varied portfolio of clients. In her free time, Amanda enjoys recreational reading of books in various genres, enjoys travelling, swimming and snorkelling.
Ana has been part of NEWCO's accounting department since 1999, and is responsible for corporate accounting at the International Business Centre of Madeira (CINM). Ana completed a bachelor's degree in Accounting and Management from the Lisbon Accounting and Business School, and later obtained a postgraduate degree in Taxation from the ISAG – Higher Institute of Administration and Management.
Before she began working at NEWCO, Ana was responsible for the accounting department at a travel agency. She is a native speaker of Portuguese and speaks fluent English.
Carla Isabel Abreu
Carla Isabel has been a member of NEWCO's accounting department since 2017. She is responsible for providing accounting services for companies that have their headquarters registered at the International Business Centre of Madeira (CINM) and in Malta, which includes processing of wages, preparing and drawing up financial statements and submitting and filing tax returns. She has been a member of the Ordem dos Contabilistas Certificados (Professional Association of Certified Accountants) since 2006.
Carla completed a degree in Management at the ISCTE – Higher Institute of Labour and Business Sciences and a postgraduate degree in Auditing, Management Control and Taxation.
Prior to joining NEWCO, Carla Isabel worked in planning, coordinating and conducting auditing work in private companies in various business sectors, as supervisor at BDO & Associados, including IBC companies, public entities and companies, and European Union funds.
She is a native speaker of Portuguese and is fluent in English.
Carlos completed a degree in Business Management at the University of Madeira and has a postgraduate degree in Taxation from the ISAG – Higher Institute of Administration and Management, Lisbon, in addition to several complementary training courses in accounting and taxation.
Prior to joining NEWCO in 2010, Carlos was a senior auditor at KPMG & Associados. Within NEWCO’s accounting department, he is responsible for drawing up and analysing financial statements for Portuguese and Maltese companies. He also ensures the submission of tax returns and official documents relating to corporate and personal income tax, VAT and Social Security.
Carlos is bilingual in English and Portuguese.
Fabiana joined NEWCO’s accounting department in 2017, ensuring that the accounting documents relating to the various companies headquartered at the International Business Centre of Madeira (CINM) are organised, classified and registered. She also manages payroll and compliance with Statistics Portugal (INE) and Banco de Portugal reporting obligations. She has training in accounting and financial and actuarial calculation. Before joining NEWCO, she worked as administrative assistant in the Financial Department of the law firm Abreu & Associados – Sociedade de Advogados, RL.
Idalina has been a part of NEWCO’s accounting department since 2001. She provides support in organising and preparing documentation relating to Portuguese companies, in customer billing, processing SAFTs, and managing payroll. Prior to joining NEWCO, she worked in the human resources department of a company in Madeira.
A certified accountant at NEWCO since 2000, Ivone has been responsible for planning, organising and executing accounting services for companies at the International Business Centre of Madeira (CINM). Prior to joining NEWCO, Ivone worked at Banco Espírito Santo (now Novo Banco)
Ivone has a degree in Business Administration and Management from the Catholic University of Portugal. In addition to her native Portuguese, she speaks fluent English.
João joined the accounts department at NEWCO in 2015. Since then, he has been looking after the accounts for Portuguese and Maltese companies, as well as the configurations and access permissions for the Primavera computer system.
In addition to his degree in IT and Computer Engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, he also holds a degree in Management and postgraduate degrees in Quality Management, Occupational Health and Safety and Strategic Management and Tourism Development, from the University of Madeira.
Prior to joining NEWCO, João was a trainer and administrative and financial director of human resources and IT at various Portuguese companies. He is also a university professor, lecturing on various subjects in the fields of economic and business sciences. His native language is Portuguese, and he speaks good English.
Lina is an accountant certified by the Professional Association of Certified Accountants, and has worked in NEWCO since 2008.
With over 20 years of experience working at the International Business Centre of Madeira (CINM) in the areas of accounting, taxation, financial management and reporting, financial statement analysis and human resources management, she has acquired thorough knowledge of the responsibilities and obligations of international accounting.
Holder of a degree in Business Administration and Management from the Catholic University of Portugal, she then went on to get a postgraduate degree in International Taxation from the ISAG – Higher Institute of Administration and Management, Lisbon . She has also taken several courses in the area of international taxation, always staying up to date with developments in the area, as well as holding a diploma in Education and Training. Experienced in working in multilingual environments, she is fluent in English and has a good knowledge of French and Spanish. Her native language is Portuguese.
Luísa has been in the accounting department at NEWCO since she began her career in 2002. She completed a course in accounting and provides support in organising, preparing and filing documentation for companies operating in the International Business Centre of Madeira.
Marcia has been a part of NEWCO’s accounting department since 1995. She is an accounting graduate, providing support in organising and preparing documentation relating to Portuguese companies, as well as managing payroll. Before working at NEWCO, she worked as a secretary in a law firm.
In addition to her native Portuguese, she is fluent in English.
Paula is responsible for providing accounting services for companies located in Portugal and Malta, drawing up financial statements and other supporting documents, as well as following up on financial audits. She also ensures that companies comply with reporting and payment obligations to the Tax and Social Security Authorities.
Paula has a degree in Economics from the ISEG – Higher Institute of Economics and Management and a postgraduate degree in Legal-Fiscal Sciences. She is a certified accountant, registered with the Professional Association of Certified Accountants.
Prior to joining NEWCO in 2018, Paula was a Financial Auditor (Ernst & Young), Administrative and Financial Director at a dairy company and certified accountant for several companies belonging to a Madeiran business group. In addition to her native Portuguese, she has full command of the English language and speaks good Spanish.
Pedro joined NEWCO's accounting department in 2013, and has since ensured that the execution of accounting services for Portuguese companies are planed, organised and coordinated effectively. More specifically, he works with companies that are a part of the International Business Centre of Madeira (CINM). Prior to joining NEWCO, he performed similar functions at other regional companies.
Pedro has completed a degree in Business Management from the ISAL – Higher Institute of Administration and Languages and a postgraduate degree in Taxation from the ISAG – Higher Institute of Administration and Management. In addition, he holds a diploma in Education and Training and has been enrolled in the Professional Association of Certified Accountants since 2010. In addition to his native Portuguese, he is fluent in English.
Vítor has been part of NEWCO's accounting department since 2008, and has since ensured that all accounting documentation is organised and that financial information is reported to the Banco de Portugal. He also provides support in other areas of accounting. He has a degree in Business Management from the ISAL – Higher Institute of Administration and Languages.
William Cassar joined the firm in 2016 and is a tax supervisor within the tax compliance department. He graduated from the University of Malta in 2014 after reading for the Masters in Accountancy degree. Prior to joining NEWCO, he worked in the tax service line in a Big Four firm for three years. In 2016, he furthered his studies by completing the Professional Certificate in Taxation, and in 2017 he obtained his warrant as a Certified Public Accountant. Currently, William is reading for the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT), offered by the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Graduated from UMA-University of Madeira in Accounting and Taxation. Having as functions to ensure the fulfillment of tax obligations before the responsible authorities, ensure the organization, classification and registration of accounting documents of several companies based in the International Business Center of Madeira (IBCM) and payroll management.
Marlene joined the accounting department in 2021. She has over 20 years of experience in accounting for companies operating in the International Business Centre of Madeira (IBCM) and in the regional market.
She has a degree in Management from UAb - Universidade Aberta and a bachelor degree in Business Management from ISAL - Instituto Superior de Administração e Línguas. Throughout her career she has done training courses in taxation and professional updating.
Member of the Order of Certified Accountants since 2001. Portuguese and Spanish are her native languages, having also knowledge of English.
