Accounting and Tax

NEWCO provides accounting and tax services in three jurisdictions – mainland Portugal, Madeira and Malta – through a single multidisciplinary team of certified accountants, tax specialists, and lawyers.

The services are tailored to each client’s jurisdiction, operational structure and objectives.

Accounting and tax services

A professional accounting and tax service goes far beyond simply keeping records up to date.

Accounting records and organises all the business’s financial transactions, whether they be sales, expenses, investments or payments.

Tax services ensure compliance with obligations towards the tax authorities and identify tax opportunities applicable to each company.

When accounting and tax work together, the result is clear:

What does an accounting and tax service include?

A comprehensive accounting and tax service should include several key components:

  • Accounting (recording of transactions, bank reconciliations, stock management, preparation of balance sheets, financial statements and other accounting documents);

  • Tax compliance (meeting filing and tax deadlines, preparing and submitting periodic returns);

  • Taxation (tax support and advice, identification of optimisation opportunities, tax analyses).

A single accounting partner, comprehensive support across three jurisdictions

Taxes, regulatory obligations, and incentives vary significantly among mainland Portugal, Madeira, and Malta.

Frequently Asked Questions on Accounting and Taxation

No. You can appoint a single accountant to coordinate everything (as the NEWCO team does). However, each jurisdiction requires knowledge of and compliance with local rules and applicable tax deadlines.

Yes. We offer a comprehensive accounting and tax service in mainland Portugal, Madeira and Malta.

Yes, you can. As a general rule, the taxes you pay depend on your personal tax residence, not simply on the location of the company. For example, a tax resident in Portugal may be a partner or director of a company in Malta without this, in itself, altering their personal tax regime. We do, however, recommend a case-by-case analysis by our tax specialists.
