Thanks to extensive investment over recent years, Malta currently has a modern and efficient infrastructure, which is the driving force of the country’s development.

This includes significant investment in technological infrastructures, training institutions, the setting up of a Freeport that is today the third biggest transhipment hub in the Mediterranean, renovation of the entire road network, the construction of industrial parks and many other examples.

The telecommunication system has been modernised and international connections are now made using satellite technology and high capacity fibre optic cables linking Malta to Europe via Italy. The telecommunications network covers practically all the islands and most households have access to broadband Internet.

Despite being an island, Malta has frequent scheduled flights to major European destinations through the national air carrier (Air Malta) and other private and low cost airlines.

Thanks to its central location in the Mediterranean, natural harbours of outstanding beauty and investments in maritime infrastructures, several domestic and international shipping companies provide various direct links to other ports in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Middle East and even Asia.

All its factories are no more than 30 minutes away from a port or airport, which means that there is efficient air and sea freight management.
